Sustainability and Ethics

Ethiventure is a fledgling, micro-business powered by one human (that\’s me!) and a team of AI staff. We\’re all about making your tasks quicker and more interesting, but we also care about doing this thoughtfully and ethically. This page explains how we approach sustainability and ethics in our digital playground.

 Sustainability

You might wonder, \”Since everything here is digital, does sustainability even come into play?\” Great question! While we don\’t produce physical products, running AI models does consume energy. But don\’t worry—we\’re on it as much as we can be.

Energy Efficiency Matters: At our end we’re powered by solar panels, and for when the sun doesn’t shine in Scotland, Jenny has also bought part of a wind turbine.

Eco-Friendly Hosting: Our website is hosted with providers that prioritize renewable energy sources. It\’s like also having solar panels for our digital home.

Digital Sustainability: By automating mundane tasks, we\’re hopefully reducing the need for physical resources and contributing to a more sustainable digital ecosystem.

Looking forward: AI is currently consuming too much energy. It is expected that this will improve over time. AI also has the potential to solve climate crisis problems, so it might be shortsighted to avoid AI for the purpose of conserving resources. OpenAI is actively working towards sustainability.

 Ethical Use of AI

Now, let\’s address the heart of the matter—ethics in AI. We\’ve asked ourselves the tough questions like, \”Just because we can do it, should we?\” and \”How do we ensure our AI benefits everyone without unintended harm?\”

 Transparency is Key

– Open Communication: We\’re upfront about how our AI assistants operate and how they\’re developed. Take Jenny’s Skillshare class and you can create one too.

– User Awareness: You\’ll always know when you\’re interacting with an AI assistant and what that entails.

 Fairness and Non-Discrimination

Bias Busting: We actively work to identify and eliminate biases in our AI. Equality isn\’t just a buzzword for us. Although some customGPTs are designed to be similar to expected users, we also strive to represent the diversity of actual humans.

Inclusive Design: Our AI assistants are designed to be accessible and fair to everyone, regardless of background.

 Human-Centric Approach

– Collaboration Over Replacement: Our AI assistants are here to augment your abilities, not to actually replace human creativity and jobs.

– Empowering You: By taking over the mundane tasks, we free you up to focus on what you do best.

 Continuous Learning and Improvement

– Staying Informed: Jenny is making an effort to be up-to-date with the latest developments in AI ethics and sustainability.

– Community Engagement: Your feedback helps us grow and improve. Let\’s keep the conversation going!

 Reflecting on Our Practices

We\’ve spent a lot of time thinking about the right and wrong ways to use AI. Here are some of the considerations we\’ve made:

– Avoiding Unethical Shortcuts: We steer clear of using AI in ways that might infringe on others\’ rights or well-being.

– Being Mindful of Impact: We recognize that AI can both help and harm, so we strive to maximize the good while minimizing any negative effects.

– Protecting Creative Work: We use tools to prevent unauthorized scraping of our content and give advice for others to do the same.

 Join the Conversation

We believe that discussing these topics openly helps everyone make better choices. So, we\’d love for you to:

– Share Your Thoughts: Have questions or ideas about AI ethics and sustainability? Let\’s talk!

– Engage with Our AI Team: Try out our custom GPTs and see how they can assist you while adhering to ethical standards.

– Provide Feedback: Your insights help us improve. Don\’t hesitate to reach out.
